JUNKERS JU87 D5 STUKA
Aviation enthusiasts are undoubtedly familiar with this fighter jet. In our endeavor to bring this classic aircraft back into the spotlight, we have spared no effort in preparation.
historical stories
The Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" was one of the most renowned dive bombers of the German Luftwaffe during World War II. The D series, introduced in 1941, represented a major upgrade to the model. Among these, the D5 variant underwent significant modifications, with its wingspan extended to 15 meters (compared to the D3's 13.8 meters) to enhance lift and stability, allowing for more precise dives towards targets during bombing missions.
To enhance the low-altitude combat capabilities of the D5, it was equipped with the Junkers Jumo 211J inverted V12 liquid-cooled engine, capable of delivering 1,400 horsepower.
It is worth noting that in order to reduce drag and improve functionality, the D5 model removed the Jericho Trumpets (the sirens) that were present on earlier Stuka variants. Consequently, the terrifying shriek that once caused enemies to tremble as it descended from the skies was no longer heard.
Fun fact: The Jericho Trumpet was a special device installed on the JU87 "Stuka" dive bomber, designed to emit a piercing screech during dives. This sound served as a psychological weapon, intimidating enemy troops and enhancing the terrorizing effect of the attack.
